Since the beginning of electrification of separate feeders and manufacture of the first electric multiple-unit trains by Riga Carriage Works, the Kyiv Electric Car Repair Plant began to master implementation of this type of repair electric multiple unit rolling stock. To date, overhaul of all electric multiple-unit trains of EP series has been mastered.
In 1998 the plant mastered a new kind of overhaul - overhaul reconditioning (KRP) with service life extension of trains beyond their useful life of 28 years and require scrapping.
Manufacturing and technological capabilities allow the plant to conduct repair of car bodies deformed in accidents and fires, as well as complex modernization.
The plant performs overhauls on a by-order basis with further reequipment aimed at improving safety, conditions for carriage of passengers and locomotive crews. From then on can electric multiple-unit trains be operated as enhanced-comfort trains. Side walls of car's interior of electric multiple-unit trains to be equipped with thermoformed panels instead of plastic ones. The use of such panels allows to reduce costs by eliminating installation of aluminum window frames. Car's interior side walls to be equipped with emergency exit window units to enhance the security of passengers.
The plant performs repair of linear equipment to meet the needs of the railroad, i.e full certification of motor-driven and trailer set of wheels of series ER, EPL, ED, overhauls of electric motors, auxiliary machinery, compressors, reactors, propulsion and auxiliary transformers of the scope KR-1 and KR-2, as well as manufactures spare parts.
